I'm looking for a XJR found one for $6000 it has 77k miles, the guy said he did have the timing chains and tensioners replaced. Wanted to know if this was a good deal.

Find out if he had the engine replaced as it is a nikasil year I believe.

 

For six grand I would guess it is a good deal, if it runs well and is in good shape. Even with a nikasil engine, most of them do just fine, it will last thousands of miles. If it lasts only till 100k, and it will certainly go well beyond that, you will get two years out of it, costing $250 a month. Better than a camry in my book....

 

Have it compression tested and a leak down done. That will give you a good idea of how strong the motor is. Assuming the rest of car is in good shape it seems like a fair deal.

 

Sounds good, I will see if I can have the car taken in for Compression test.

 

Have an independent Jag mechanic look at it. If the Nikasil engine has lasted this long it's probably OK.

 

What else should I look at it when I go look at it? Or look for
