Got 'Gearbox Fault' warning msg, prognosis
I think I have gearbox problems on my 99 XJ8 4.0 Sov.
Problems began with occasional shocks and thuds when the box changed gear. No hard driving. Also when pulling off sometimes it was as it was not in first gear as it required the more than the usual amount of gas to get under way.
Today, after thud on the gear change the Gearbox Fault message came up.
The fault clears but will reappear. If use 'manual' and the box in 2nd or 3rd then I can nurse it so it does not happen.
I have not ever noticed any oil leaks in the 10yrs I have had the car so I not sure if just bugging more oil in the box will help or not.
Any thoughts ?

Bit of dummies question, but is it the same gearbox in all the 1999 X308 models ? I have 4.0 NA engine so do I need to source a spare gearbox from a 4.0 car or will a 3.2 be just the same ?
Is it a ZF5HP24 I need ?
