Ground Strap Locations
I'm looking for a list of Ground Strap locations on 1999 XJR. I can only remember the one in the trunk, trans to body, one on the passenger side strut tower (goes to the starter i think?).
What other ones am I missing?
I've completed my blown engine swap and have a pesky battery not charging light left over. Everything else seems good

Like there is a ground strap that goes into one of the screws that mounts the BONNET on the hinge. I assume that supposed to go to the "
LH FORWARD GROUND STUD" but how can I confirm
Also I do not see the ground that is near the passenger side strut tower. Isnt there one there? What gives?
That's a good reference.. it shows the ground locations but does not show you what's grounding those locations.

The diagram on pdf page 23 of the manual at the link below shows the ground points related to electrical circuits throughout the vehicle. To learn which circuits are grounded at each point you must refer to the individual Figures or schematics for the various systems. I once compiled a list of all the circuits grounded at each point in our '93 XJ40 but have not done one for our X308.
The bonnet ground strap attaches to the body just to the left of the grille. I assume that it is not shown among the ground points in the Electrical Guide because it doesn't ground any electrical circuits per se, it just grounds the bonnet so that it helps reduce electromagnetic emissions from and external interference with the vehicle's electrical and electronic systems.
Regarding a ground near the passenger side (right hand?) shock tower, are you perhaps referring to the false bulkhead battery power connection?

After doing a bit a searching for the Battery Not Charging light, I should only have a couple grounds to check then, correct? My guess would be the trans to frame ground, the negative battery terminal strap to trunk.
I forget if there was a strap from the actual alternator to the somewhere. Haven't had time to get under her and check yet but I will be shortly.
I am also thinking that my alternator could have been damaged when I blew the engine from driving through water, however I was showing an increase in voltage at the battery when the car was running vs off.
Off the top of my head, your alternator should be producing at least 14.2 volts with the engine running. If it's producing less, there may be a problem with the regulator or diodes. There are some simple tests you can run with a volt/ohmmeter to check for diode or regulator problems or excessive voltage drop. Search YouTube for videos by Eric the Car Guy and others.

Don

According to this site https://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/u...ds/earth-leads there is a wheel hub ground strap on X308 but I have not found one on my Xjr. I have only found the one for the bonnet and the one for the engine. Are there any more than two for an Xjr ?

Hi Henkez,
Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us.
The ground straps on the wheel hubs are to drain away static electric charge and other electrical currents that can cause erosion of the wheel bearings. Originally there were probably grounds on all of the hubs, but they tend to be removed over the years during brake jobs and such.
See pdf page 21 of the Timken document I am attaching.
