Will unhooking the battery for the winter have the same effect as a hard boot?

Yes, a 'hard boot' is usually described as touching the negative battery cable, attached to the frame, not the battery, to the positive battery terminal. This has the affect of instantly eliminating all the capacitive voltage charges within all the electronics. Leaving the battery disconnected for 10 minutes has the same affect. I guess leaving the battery disconnected all Winter could be considered an 'extremely hard boot'

 

Maybe more like rubber gulashes...LOL!
