Default Hard reset

Regarding a comment on the "Hard reset" - "Disconnect negative terminal on the battery and briefly touch the positive to clear all memory". With what do you "briefly touch" the positive? and where? My XJR is stored and the negative cable is disconnected. I'll be reconnecting it after 5 months. Would being unhooked for that time period do a hard reset, or should I follow the procedure above?

Thanks

I'm going to take a stab here, if the negative terminal is left disconnected for that long, the stored energy in the computer will be drained entirely...in effect, reset upon reconnection.

You're not trickle charging it while in storage?

No trickle charge. I have been storing cars for the winter since 1990 and never have used a trickle charger, and that included a 99 XJR that I stored for 2 winters. In most cases, with the battery disconnected for the winter, the cars would start right up in the spring after reconnecting.
