Smile Have a simple question

I have a 98 xj8 and I dont have a owners manual and am trying to figure out what the button is to the left of the sport button on the console is for.
Also have a button with the word phone on it near the radio and am not sure about this button either. I have bluetooth on my sprint cell phone but cant pick up a signalfrom the car. not sure if the phone button is for a cell phone or what.
Thanks for any help.

The phone button activated the (optional) factory-fitted cellphone. These were (are) analog phones and are no longer supported by any US cellular services.
Its sole remaining function is to sit there and look important.

Download the owner's manual from this site:

http://www.ownerinfo.jaguar.com/extf...prod/index.jsp

The wiring and the stereo in the Jag can be used with a bluetooth interface, such as the Motorola T605 and some Parrot units. There are several threads in this forum about it. A very good treatise on the subject is this file:

http://j.roal.home.mchsi.com/X308Bluetooth.pdf

I have done this with a T605 and it works great - the installation is invisible, the car links up with bluetooth phones immediately; phone operations mute the stereo, the display says PHONE when you're on it, and the phone audio comes through the front speakers in the car... It's a pretty simple installation, outlined in detail in the file above.

Many of us have also added the audio AUX input, as described at the end of the file. This allows use of an iPod or equivalent OR streaming bluetooth audio from the phone adapter into the full stereo - sounds GREAT!

Default motorola t605 mute wiring?

Hi Everyone. My attempts to install the motorola t605 failed this weekend because the installer couldn't get the stereo to mute for incoming phone calls. Can anyone help me? I suspect it may be a wiring issue but the installer thinks it may be a defective t605. Hopefully the experts here can weigh in. Sorry I don't have full access on this site, otherwise I would be PMing people. Thanks
