Default Heater valve - how to check?

As many of us, I am going through my heating system, due to lack of heat.

By checking one-by-one, I am excluding items, so I can pinpoint to the culprit.
My pump is vibrating, so that should be ok.

But how to check the operation of the heater-valve?
I do not hear any clicking or other operation noise, but it might get lost in the engine noise.

How can I be sure the valve is working (so to go arrange flushing the core)?
Feeling hoses? External power supply? other ideas?

Eric

If you take it out you can look through the ports or blow through it. The valve powers on to bypass the matrix ie. turn off the heat

Thanks.
I will not be able to work on the car myself for a while, so will need to pinpoint the mechanic in the right direction.
What should come first, removing the valve or flushing the core?
Or is that kind of same action?

You will just about have the valve out to flush the core!
