Default How fast have you got an x308 up to?

"Someone who isn't me" has gotten into the 120-125 region with remarkably quick acceleration within 3-digit speeds.

Jay Leno once remarked that top speed matters, not because you'll go that fast, but because if a car tops out at 100 then passing at 80 is nearly maxing out the cars ability, while passing at 80 in a car with 155 top end is just a leisurely jog in the park for the vehicle.

"Someone who isn't me either" once had their 4.0 XJ8 at 150mph, which was on the limiter.

Someone very close to me has seen 140 MPH courtesy of the ODB2 reader and Torque Android app. Gas mileage suffered.

Either SWIY's speedo is miscalibrated, tire size has been altered from oem or "he" just missed topping the jag out by 5mph, as I think the electronic limiter is at 155.

I went up to 130 in a modified XJR-100 and I thought the car felt unstable at that speed even with good Michelin performance tires on it. I think there's too much turbulence in the engine bay to make these cars stable at high speeds.

120, smooth as can be, and plenty to spare. Rarely stretch it though, too many 4-legged insurance claims waiting to jump out of the trees. However, we did push to 150 on the Dyno for what it's worth.

The XJR was 155mph, The XJ8 4.0mph was 150 and the XJ8 3.2 was 140mph.
Here's a link to Jaguar's XJ brochure specification page where you can see the figures.

As far as how the car felt at speed, "someone who wasn't me" recalls that it didn't feel too bad, and as the radio was on when the run began, it could still be clearly heard at top speeds. The car was wearing OEM spec Pirelli tyres at the time on OEM 17 in wheels.

I'm with addicted2boost, the car can cruise at 120 all day but once you hit 135 it starts to feel unstable. My Volvo R Wagon felt fine at 155 all day long, aero is funny like that.

Officially measured standing mile 149mph. That was years ago with quite stock engine. Lower pulley, sport catalysts, catback and additional ECu.

I had my XJR up to 140+ on the back straight at Road Atlanta during a track weekend.

I had a professional driver in the car with me and it still took me three 20 minute sessions to get it going that fast. The car was ready to go, but it took me that long to get comfortable with the speed. We re-torqued the lug nuts after every session and they were loose!

There is a huge differance between 90-100 and 140+, when you get to those speeds things happen fast and your car had better be perfect. The road surface, suspension, tires and inflation pressure, BRAKES, and any aero effects on the car can have a huge influence on how it turns out.

Your cute spoiler/splitter you installed could upset the aero so bad at those speeds that really "bad things" could happen.

And of course, do not try these speeds on public roads.

At the track you are (hopefully) wearing some safety equipment, there are run off areas, no one is going to pull out from a side street, there are no telephone poles or trees close by, the surface is correctly maintained and there are emergency crews standing by to help if something happens.

"Someone other than you" may get killed and take a few innocents with them if you try to see how fast you can go on the street. Even a "deserted" highway or back road has some tricks to show you, believe me.

Just one recent example of high speed (and alcohol) on public roads:

There is also video of the aftermath of this crash on the web. It is VERY disturbing to watch.

Vector has morphed into safety-Sally, lol, a surprise from someone nicknamed after the fastest production car of the 1980s :-)

But seriously, this post was labeled in past tense, not intended to encourage speeding like "how fast can you drive your x308 through a school zone today?", haha

I was there yesterday. Please look at from 40:45. Those guys for a unknown reason didn't remember to go from gas pedal to brake after 1/4mile, they just raced against each others without realizing that runway is ending.....cars went down to the forest. Camaro driver picked up by medical helicopter. The whole event stopped. I have never seen like this in 30y when been in these events.

240 kph on a long down hill strip. But that was fully legal on the A7 here...

Kind of like: "It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye." LOL!

OK, you win. I erred on the side of telling MY story and throwing in a safety message too. Must be getting old.

haha Vector, my car was bone stock when I did speed testing, i'm sure it would prob be better now lowered and with the spoiler.

With my diff ratio swap I can only speculate that my cut off is now 25mph less. I was told with my ABS disabled the speed limiter may also be disabled (speculation once again), but pretty sure I would detonate the engine before beating any speed records

120 I find 85 mph is the most comfortable for highway driving w/ mine.

My previous 2003 XJR: 143 totally stock, really unstable.... 157(governor kicked in) with 20 mph wind at my back, car lowered, pulley/intake/ported eaton/ported throttle body, 52 degree day, Arden front spoiler, rear roof spoiler, and underbody smoothed out with sheets of aluminum... Was more stable but felt the sunroof was gonna fly off lol. The car is supposedly able to top out at 177 stock

Hi All, brand new here and first post!

Someone who isn't me had 135 from their '99 3.2 XJ Sport
They had 155 from their '03 4.2 XJR (OK that was an X350 not X308)
And they had 130 from their '01 XJR 100, but they said she's an old girl and didn't want to push it too far!

It's how they get there that matters to me, not what they get to.
