Default how remove 1999 xj8 volume knob on radio

Can't access volume controls on radio knob. Can adjust volume from steering pod. Can turn radio on and off with knob, but other functions do no work. How can I remove volume knob to see why it won't engage?

I believe the knob just pulls off. The problem is going to be inside the radio though. Oddly enough behind the volume knob area which you can't access even with it off. Your only hope would be to remove the radio and dismantle it. Behind the volume knob on the inside of the radio is the rheostat. You may get lucky and take some electrical cleaner and spray it inside of the rheostat.

The knob just pulls off. After this is done, there is plastic shielding the volume pot itself, but there's just enough space to spray electrical cleaner/lube down the shaft of the pot. This has temporarily cured (3 months now) my dirty/flaky volume knob problem.

Easy way to spray Electric Cleaner into Radio Volume Knob... Remove knob (yes it pulls right off). If your drug store will let you purchase. Buy a couple 16 gage 1 inch syringes. Remove needle from Syringe. Glue or affix needle to RED PLASTIC TUBE that comes with Spray can of Electric Cleaner. ( do not clog needle) I used thick Super Glue and hot glue gun. With the needle attached it gives you more control to direct stream where you need it and not on wood trim. I have used this method also on the Headliner ( another subject). Anyone trying this can email. It works really well

Wow, that sounds fairly intricate. I just use the WD-40 Elect. contact cleaner. It comes with a straw so you can direct it pretty well..

This method just makes sure you get the electric cleaner right where you want it. Better control. Have also used this method for sagging Headliner repair. (yes, I did replace my headliner, visors, upper console).
