Default Radio volume knob

2000 Xk8 radio volume jumps high or low not always in the turned direction. Steering wheel switch works correctly. Is it possible to fix the knob/potentiometer? or is a new radio required?

A blast of tuner cleaner might help.

this is where you can send it. they do excellent work. i have the same problem and prefer to live with it. be careful with the tuner cleaner as it can remove the white lettering on the buttons. some interior cleaners also do this.

I have seen this on many VDPs and XK8/Rs from this vintage. First step it is the volume jumping, then after about a year or two depending on use, it will not do anything. The one on my XKR doesn't do anything other than on and off, but, since the steering wheel controls work, I haven't bothered looking at it.

I fixed mine. I have a 2001 XKR. Wife was always turning the volume up, and would use the steering wheel controls to lower same to a manageable level. Placed a paper towel cardboard center over the radio volume control. Hit it with electrical cleaner spray. Did this four or five times over a two week period. Works fine now.

Before you fixed it, could you fill the clicking as you turned the knob? On mine, there is no clicking to be felt at all.

No clicking. I believe the volume control is an old-fashioned analog, rheostat. I did not disassembly to verify.
