Default How to replace front side leaper emblem 2000 xj8 vdp

My drivers side emblem is missing. My replacement came today from a 2000 xj8 vdp, so should be the same. The emblem matches the passenger side.

i see lots of posts on lighted markers and such, but this is just a plastic badge. Saw the posts where they sometimes slide to the front or back, but mine doesn’t budge.

scared to do much prying, in case it’s glued. Don’t need to damage the paint.

or am I better off soaking it in acetone until the jaguar emblem itself comes off and add it to the old base?

thanks

ps... I have an extra passenger side, extra v8 emblems and a boot plate that says xj8 and has the key hole, if anyone needs them. Was cheaper to buy all of it than just the one piece.

I think you push it up a bit and then slide the bottom side out. In the picture of the backside of the new badge I'm not "sure" which is the top, but essentially the large plastic pieces on one side flex to put pressure on the smaller tabs on the other side.

I hope I am making sense.

They are not glued on, they snap in.

To remove them just press down firmly on the top of the emblem, and it will suddenly pop out. To install, simply insert the bottom of the emblem into the slot, then rotate up and press into place.

I replaced mine with amber marker lamps from a 98? XJ 8. The right side is pre-wired for bulb and socket that simply plugs into the amber lamp. The left side is not ? Eventually I will run a small harness to the bumper turn signal harness. I took a small section of the harness on both sides of the wreck But my car had the harness there on the right and I simply installed a #168 bulb.

the best way is to go to the backside,so as not to scratch paint.sqeeze with fingers.its pretty easy but a lot of work to get to.when trying to remove from front comes with mixed results, steve

I warmed it up with a hair dryer yesterday, but wouldn’t budge. Think this is another project for when it gets above freezing.

steve- I don’t see any access through the engine compartment to the back. I looked around yesterday, but didn’t really remove anything.

wish the jaguar emblem was clear so light would go through it. I’d wire it up

i have a thing for lights. I had blue under glows on the pt cruiser. Heck, I even have led strips on my jazzy, like a hover round. It actually helps at night, especially keeps me from running over our little dogs lol. I’m old enough to not care what others think!

thanks all for your input

Shouldn'y have such difficulty removing your old one.......maybe the clips were broken and so someone glued it in place?

The unit is all plastic and is held in place by 4 clips, the two small ones at the top of the emblem, and two larger, flexible ones at the bottom of the emblem. Simply press down firmly on the top of the emblem and the two larger flexible clips at the bottom will relax and release the emblem, it will literally fall into your hands.

See pics..........................

Nothing so far seems to easy lol. I don’t remember these problems on my old xj6.

I will definitely try again, after the 1/2” of ice melts. Every time I go out for a smoke, it’s the only thing that I see when looking at her... the missing emblem.

thanks for the info

Its 40 and clear today, so trying to get stuff done. I scrutinized this thing, and there was a tiny little gap. Wiggled a small screwdriver and eventually it went through.

it was indeed glued. After I broke the seal, I was able to remove it.

thanks all for your time
