how to set the variable valve timing on a 1999 jaguar xj8, aj27 motor
Is there any videos on how to set the variable valve timing on a 1999 jaguar xj8. (aj27 motor).
I have looked on You Tube and there are none that I can find.
I had a secondary chain break (drivers side) so the heads came off and went to the head shop. Have the Jaguar locking tools for the timing put one on the fly wheel, got the heads back on and the cams back on the motor with the timing block in place. Put intake manifold on and noticed that I need to set the Variable Valve timing set, on the front of the motor. Looked at the info and just dont understand it at all. Talked to a mechanic and he said that youtube was the best place to learn / see how to do the adjustments. The VVT and the gear on the exhaust cam was never taken apart as the cams were off when the head was removed and had to be off to reinstall the heads. Timing chains guides and new tensioners are installed.
Again just cant figure out how to set the vvt's before I put the solenoids back on and the front cover back on

There is a tool to reset the VVT assembly on the intake, though I have done dozens of timing chains on these vehicles and I have reset it only on one car, because of a freakish problem. When you take out the bolt that secures the intake sprocket/vvt assembly, it loses its oil pressure, and automatically goes back to the position it needs to be set in to retorque the cam. By the way two notes: DO NOT follow the torque spec of 100-115 NM to retorque the bolt, it will snap. Use 65 Ft/lbs, with loctite. Second: if you are into a long read about these heads and VVT assemblies, read my thread here https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...y-stuck-75570/
