I have to shake the shift knob aggressively to get the car to start

I have a 1998 XJ8 Jaguar the doesn't want to start unless I slam the gear shifter hard into park. And suggestions ?

Have you tried starting in neutral?

My guess would be the park microswitch is sticking or failing somehow, since that would prevent starting if I remember right.
