Intermittent wiper peoblem
I am having a problem with my windshield wipers in the intermittent mode, It will stop with the wipers partially deploid. Is there a control module if so where is it located or is it part of the motor? Anything else it could be. 98 XJ8 Thank for your help.

Dan, there is a microswitch in the wiper motor assembly. When I had a similar problem I found a contact for the microswitch had broken. I was able to open the wiper motor assembly and bend the remaining portion of the contact to get full operation back.
Good luck.

Good luck.

Dan,
Don't know if you're problem is fixed or not. There is a micro switch as Tony mentioned. When I had similar issues, replies to my post were to replace motor. I found one on e-bay for 50.00 or so. Supposed to be easy enough to replace (JTIS directions), but I had trouble getting mine out through everything in the way. Bolted it back up, will try again on a warmer day with more patience. Good luck.

Can I suggest you soak the lower "screw heads" on the original, as you've got the JTIS you'll know that you have to disconnect a lot of stuff like brackets before you can actually attempt the swap - the lower screws have slide captures, so lube like wd40 left to penetrate them will help. A long flat head screwdriver and a rubber mallet to knock them across makes it a bit easier, but it's one job I don't relish! good luck.
Sean, You're right about the lower screw heads/tabs. What a pain in the neck. I believe they robbed me of my patience that day. I had the unit off of the firewall, but, even with everything JTIS said to disconnect, I just couldn't maneuver it out of there and I was loosing the sunlight. I'll hit it earlier another day when it's warmer out. Thanks.

Ralph,
If it is the micro switch, then it is an easy fix without removing the motor. The broken piece will be obvious and can be removed. If there is sufficient contact material left on the switch then it can be bent out to complete the contact. I don't know how permanent this fix is but has been working for me for several months now. It may be I have a wiper motor replacement in the future - or just the micro switch!
