Silly question but did the 1998 xj8 come with a keyfob.

 

Not a silly question at all. YES, it did and this is what it looks like:






The vehicle will originally have been suppled with two of these.

The X308 should have come with 2 Master (black) keys and 1 Valet (green) key.
The keyfob transmitters should be on the same keychain of each Master key and they can be configured to the MEMORY SEAT positions 1 & 2.

A keyfob transmitter with the Valet key defeats the purpose of the key and should not be on the same keychain.

 

Well looks like I only have one key. And nothing else.

 

Depending on the Country you live in, there are different frequencies. You need the correct one to configure to the car.
You also should have MORE THAN ONE KEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(don't cry to the forum when you lose your only key, we have heard it all before)

 

I can only speak for the US spec cars. there are pre 2000 and post 200 fobs.

I happen to own a 2000 XJR and 2001 XJR 100 and they have different fobs.

 

I guess I will have to go to the dealer for another key.

 

Did you try SONE (https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/members/sone-195620/) to cut you another key?
Then you can take them BOTH to get configured.
