Hi paulb123. I had this problem a while ago and you can get at the mechanism via the boot behind the number plate. here's the thread I started and the answers I got https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...rouble-168502/

I cut a hole out in the end as a small nut had lodged itself down in the lock, see from post #11, there's some pictures that might help you?

Good luck with it, it can definitely be opened from behind the number plate using the measurements in my posts, my pictures also show which control is which (electric or manual key opening).

Have you given any thought to calling a locksmith, the Jag dealer? If the thread doesn't help, I can get pics of a couple of XJ8s in a local junkyard with the boot torn open to get the lock open.

Hi Paul, guess what - I just got into my car using the advice and measurements in your post- absolutely brilliant!

Been locked out for around 3 months. Phoned Jaguar ages ago they said they could cut a key from the information on log book but the cost was over 120 quid. The locksmith couldn't do it with the tools he had so I thought I was stuffed.

I'm keeping the Jag on the driveway at moment and using the other one so there was no real rush and I was very reluctant to take a drill to it but i'm glad I did now. It's only a small hole and can't be seen anyway behind the number plate.

Thanks a million , Paul Bennett.
