2001 vdpsc I replaced both license plate bulbs still no light. None of the side marker lights come on either. I pulled every 5 amp fuse in the trunk fuse box and all of them are good. I get an intermittent signal on the dash to check rear lights. When I first press the brakes it will come on. If I let off and reapply the brakes the warning often disappears. Any ideas???

 

It could be a bad relay in the luggage compartment fusebox - Relay# 3 - license Plate light and the side marker lights:



Try switching Relay #3 and Relay #2.

That was the problem. I just pulled the car out of storage after about three years. I can drive at night now without worrying about getting pulled over unnecessarily! Thanks again.

 

Here's my issue with the lic plate lights. I replaced both bulbs and when the trunk is open the left is on right is off. As I close the trunk the right comes on and the left one goes out. Yes the license plate lights. Not the interior trunk lights. So as I'm driving I have one license plate light on(right/pass). What gives?

 

I would start by checking the wires that run along the right hand boot/ trunk lid hinge, under the plastic trim, as they are prone to braking.
