I was just backing out of my spot at work, but the car seemed to fight moving. It felt like the parking brake was on, but I checked it, it wasn't.
Got outside, looked around, nothing suspicious.
Tried again, gave it a little more gas and POP!
Big pop out of the right rear wheel. Looked at it, every thing looks normal, but when driving at very low speeds, it sounds like swings squeaking at the park. Once I pass a few mph, sound disappears.
Tried pressing brake during squeak to see if it changes pitch, doesn't seem to.
I'm just driving around in my parking lot now, sound seems to be disappearing, but this needs to be fixed.
Any ideas?

 

Ok, I drove around my parking lot for about 10 minutes. Squeaking totally disappeared.
After a while of trying to get it to show any symptoms of anything, with no luck, I decided to drive towards home. I kept the radio off, listening to the car, ready to pull over at any second.
Nothing. Car drove perfectly.
I did test the parking brake, which seems to do nothing. I really don't know if it worked before or not though. I live in the flatlands of Illinois, and the car is an auto.
Still, I want/need to get to the bottom of this.
Any ideas?
BTW, here's your red herring, the last thing I did before I parked it, was get it washed.

 

Not sure w/ Jag's but I had a similar event w/ my Infiniti Q45 it ended up being it tossed a piece of the tie-rod, it drove okay to me (in my mind as I was fixated on the pop & squeal sound neglecting actual performance) but later I noticed it was dog-trailing/out of alignment took it into a shop they found it was suspension damage. But mind you I did run into a ditch days before to avoid a pet. Either way if you are knowledgeable I'd get the backend up on ramps & inspect for obvious damage or have a shop rack it & have a look.

Also go look @ all your wheels how they sit on a flat surface, notice if the right rear is different. I'd say shock & sway bar related,not sure the correlation to having it washed pends in this (just a shot in the semi-dark lol).

You say fighting movement, man that's another can of worms rear differential,tranny etc.

I'm thinking about the Pop and squeak issue a little differntly.
You say you aren't sure if the park brake was working properly or not.
I would jack thenrear end and place on axle stands as being on ramps will be useless.
Turn the back wheel with gearbox engaged and allow whels to rotate.
Then you will need to remove the wheel and disc to check out the park brake
shoe set-up to check if all is well.
Obviously, while up on stands you will give your entire back end a visual.

Well, I haven't taken the wheel of yet to look at the emergency brake, but I did get a chance to jack up the rear end.
Can't see anything wrong. Both wheels spin, just as you would expect, off of the ground. All suspension parts look good. Axles look good. Nothing looks loose.
Can't find anything.
When I get some time, I'll get to the parking brake.
I would hardly ever use it, so if it is the issue, it's not pressing.
I do want to get to the bottom of this though, just for peace of mind.

 

Well, I can't seem to find any problem, whatsoever. I'm going with the theory that the car wash made the brake stick.
According to the interwebs, it is not that uncommon.

 

Or a stone or something dislodged into there then came out???

 

im guessing when you had it off the ground that you grasped the wheel and tried to twist it from 9 0clock to 3 oclock and 12 to 6.......it sounds like a sticking brake with the bang as it released but its worth checking for a dodgy wheel bearing whilst your at it.......

 

Howie, I did check for any wiggle, and found nothing. I'm deeming it fine.

 

Did you wash and park it for a while? Sometimes I have seen pads and rotors stick if the car didn't move after cleaning it.

I think that is what happened. The car wash is right around the corner from work. I washed it, then parked it at work for probably 6 or 7 hours.
I experienced this, when leaving that night.
It was scary when it happened. It was very loud, and the squealing was terrible. It was the first time I'd ever experienced that with any car, and with this car being newer to me, I was certain it was going to be a very expensive fix.
Now, I'm sure it was just the pads sticking.
