Oh dear, those idiot Jaguar engineers, did they not only design engines with plastic tensioners, they also forgot that people wear helmets inside a luxury limousine ...

Default cupholders

I forgot about the cupholders since I quit using them after the first time my beverage dumped into the passenger foot-well on a turn. I took out the ashtray unit completely, and was in the process of designing a custom cup-holder for the ashtray well, and never got past the drawing board. My Starbucks cup or 16oz tallboy fits in the ashtray well just fine, and then winter arrived, so got no further. If anyone could vacuum-form a single cup device to fit that location, I'd sure buy one.

oh the amount of missing rear leg room, how can I forget that. And the Elmer's school glue they used for the headliner.

I'm 6'2 and I've never ran into issues with the seat bottom support or handbrake digging into my leg, though I've definitely heard a lot about the second one. It does seem like I sit much more leaning back than a lot of people, so that might have something to do with it. Headroom's adequate, I can sit straight up without rubbing the headliner, which is more than I could say about my Eclipse...

For cupholders, I've seen setups like this https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...pholder-95323/ where it's an insert into the center console storage area. I saw a custom one of those for sale online somewhere, but I can't seem to find it... jury rigging one up myself is probably the best solution, cause even a perfectly working armrest cupholder won't hold much more than a tiny 12oz can without falling.

It doesn't have much spare room to rest your right foot when cruise is on. The veneer seems awfully brittle, possibly because my XKR spent most of it's life in TX.

I think this is an unfair assessment of the engineering at Jaguar. The cup holders are optimally sized and positioned to put a spin on the cup as it departs the cup holder in a turn such that the cup explodes upon contact with the passenger door. Come on, functionality like this doesn't just happen. In the BMW, the cups just fall over. What is the fun in that?

Finally some cool head prevails ... thanks !
If you should complain about the location of the cup holders, fine, I see a point, but on not holding 16oz (!!) cups ...

Heh. Just checked the online menu of one of our local quick-stop gas stations, a 16oz cup is the smallest size they sell. The other choices are 20, 24, 32, 44, and 52oz.

When I first moved to the x308 from my x300 I missed the coin holder .. and the cup holders are junk. The Euro manufacturers took a long time to understand the need for good cup holders in USA cars. I don't drink in my cars .. but occasionally have a bottle of water -- the x308's cup holders don't work.

All cars have some engineering issue that comes up -- the tensioners being Jag's big item .. and the early linings.

Too low. With bad knees (just had both replaced last month), I couldn't get in or out of it. Had to trade it on a RRS for ease of entry. With new knees, Now I wish I had it back.

Stupid location of the fuel filter, very poor engineering IMHO

Apologies as I know I'm crashing the X308 party as an X300 owner ...but I have to say I'm sooooo glad to hear I am not the only one that this bugs the heck out of... and it is the same on the X300.

It may seem like a minor nit, but if one is of the right (or wrong) dimensions, there is no comfortable way to rest your leg on the dead pedal when the seat is adjusted for reasonable brake/accelerator pedal reach. I've been thinking about building an approximate inch high "riser" at some point.

And at 5' 9", I too brush the headliner with my hair. But it is a very low car after all, and is very evident when looking outside the office at the parking lot and seeing how all new cars tower over it.

BTW, I've never had much trouble with the cup holders to tell you the truth, but I also recognize their limitations I rebuilt mine with 2003 holders so the hinges are sturdier, and I always keep my hand loosely wrapped around the cup while I rest my arm on the console pad. But yes, "unattended" cup holder reliance is not recommended

.

There is a coin holder in the X308's it's in the little cubby hole under the boot/headlight level switches.
The cup holders are probably designed for a traditional British mug of tea rather than a skinny coffee cup. However it does state in the drivers manual the cup holders are not intended for use whilst driving.
Have you ever seen how the cup holder operates in a Saab 9-3 or 9-5? That's a piece of engineering.

The clonk in the front subframe when braking and going over bumps.. Worn rear subframe bushes... Just need to replace them sometime...

Then the tendency to clonk at the back...

The dash board screws which like to come undone and then rattle...

The really ineffective headlight washers...

The heating which likes tomchange its temperature randomly...

The tendency to rust in areas cars don't normally rust...

I use that for my wallet -- it not usable as a coin holder.

Back in the 90's we still needed quarters for tolls -- tolls are much more and everyone uses electronic tags. I rarely open my windows anymore

I am annoyed because it is too nice to get out in the winter or wet weather.
