Angry Mystery Suspension clunk...driving me NUTS

02 XJR with 105K...I have gone thru everything...what am I missing; Clunk is front right happens ALL the time over light bumps in the road...have replaced and eliminated the following;
Both Ball Joints AND both sets of A frames bushes upper and lower
Track rod end
Rollbar bushes AND down links
Cats Shocks and upper mounting bushes

Is it possible for a subframe mount to go bad...they seem fine. Nothing loose under floor...transmission mounts good...definitely comes from lower right front suspension...it's not the door hinge or inside the door cavity....I am stumped...anyone?????

yes subframe mounts and motor mounts, specificly check the mid subframe mounts where they bolt to the body. They crack and seperate over bumps

Thanks Brutal....really did not expect a subframe mount to be bad after 8 years...but I will do that next before I loose my mind. BTW....your car looks exactly like mine...

I'd suggest engine mount, I went through your exact list.

To check the mounts look at the bases around the aluminum and the holes around the perimter, if theres purple dark colored fluid stained around the base its broken.

I had a strange "clunk" that was traced to the bushings that hold the radiator - The lower ones had failed allowing the radiator to lift up going over a bump.

This was on my 95 but it looks like the 02 uses the same setup.

Just a thought - good luck

no totally differant, the 98 later use a slide out lower mount so that when you pull up too far on a parking curb it pushes the radiator out and back to limit damage if any. It can be slid back in and unlike 95-97 wont break the radiator or bend the lower radiator metal bracket(big improvment thank god)

Nice to know they changed it -- I was going by the top mounts that look to be the same. Thats what I get for making assumptions!
