Smart People: I need your help. I just bought a used 2001 xj8 vdp, and the sunroof whistles with air coming in when i get up to highway speed. It appears to be an 1/8th of an inch above the roof of the car when it is closed, and it is scooping the air or something. Is this a seal issue? Can I adjust the "stopped" position of the sunroof downward? What ideas do you have. To the best of my knowledge, it is not leaking water. Ideas? Thanks for helping, smart people!

I had similar issues which is also compounded by the fact that my sunroof doesn't have a stop location that I have found, ie if I keep my finger on the button, or only press the button once the roof goes through its full motion, ie from fully open slide to fully tilted.

I'm now getting quite good at "timing" when to let go of the button so the roof is flush and doesn't generate any noise

I'd be interested to hear from the other board members about the stop positions..... and whether it can be adjusted. (May give me some clue as to why mine isn't working)

 

SARC. It appears no one else had any other tips for either of us. I did some reading and eventually more or less massaged the gasket to loosen it up, and it is sealing better. I still hear wind noise, but no whistling. Thankfully. Someone suggested a certain product, and I need to look that up. On a different note, I see you put in a mp3 deal in your xj8. Can you tell me more about how that works, how hard it was to install, etc? Thanks for helping out the new guy!

Yes, it's strange no one else jumped in. I think most people leave their sunroofs closed and don't play with them at all !

Anyway, MP3 connectivity..... here's the thread...... (you should also be able to click "MP3" in my signature to get to the post, maybe the click through doesn't work in your browser?)

I did it a few months ago and it's still perfect. If you are comfortable with wiring and soldering you should be able to do it. If you try it and need any help, either post back or PM me
