Default Need to Identify this hose.

I'm new here so Hello to all. My Jag is a 99 XJ8 VDP. This is my first Jag and I have to say that so far I love it. I was doing my first oil change and noticed that I have a pretty bad leak coming from this hose. The fluid looks like tranny fluid. The hose is on the drivers side and seems to attach to the block right under the drivers side Cyl head. Since it's a pain to check the Transmission fluid and I'm not having any trans problems I just wanted to see if anyone knows what this hose does so I can start getting an idea how much it's going to cost to fix. I hate leaks!

I don,t know what it's like in your area but we have 4 Jag dealerships within a 100 miles and the difference in parts pricing is substantial -sometimes as much as 50 to 75%. It pays to shop around. I use OEM dealer parts when I can but sometimes for some apps you can get OEM parts from 3rd party suppliers that are the real deal.

Do you plan to do the work yourself? Do let us know how this sorts out as we don't always get the "rest of the story" on the forum and thats what ties it all together.

Thank you very much. It doesn't seem to be low on Power Steering fluid so I think I'll make sure something above there isn't leaking down to the hose first then see how much that's going to set me back. Thanks again!

That's sound advice, I'll update as soon as I get it fixed.

I found the hose for $143 without much looking. I sure hope that's where the leak is coming from. I think I'll get under there tomorrow and see just how hard that's going to be to replace. Thanks again guys!

the other thing that leaks right there are the 2 trans cooler lines(aluminum pipes) you have to really make sure nothing (like the metal ferrule of that PS hose) is in contact with the tranny lines, they will get a hole rubbed in them.
The tranny lines ARE NOT a DIY. theyre a total PIA on a lift, you have to jack up the engine, remove the drivers cat etc cause theyre 1 piece and have to be bent around to get then in and then fit into their brackets. You should be very happy if it is the PS hose only

Well it turns out it is leaking from the valve cover. I guess royal purple leaking down over some dirty hoses gets a red color to it. I should have smelled it but oh well I'm glad it's not something worse. Thank you all.

Thanks for getting back to us on this. That beats all and reminds me of an old service rule; simple stuff first.
