new here guys thinking of buying xjr
I had a 1993 lexus sc400 . Now sold
XJR seem to be fairly inexpesnive to buy and has a powerfull engine
Now i know Lexus is number one in US when it comes to reliabilty,
How does XJR compare?
Could you guys please post your honest opinions on reliabilty issues with XJR.
I like to ride the crap out of my cars,,with Lexus I never had any problems.
Would XJR hold up to being driven hard all the time???
Thanks guys.

A used XJR represents a fabulous vehicle for the money, provided you get a car that has no major complaints at purchase. And, herein, is the challenge. I suggest strongly that you pay an expert mechanic a couple of hundred bucks to thoroughly check over any used XJR before you turn over hard bucks to buy a "big cat." I learned my lesson the very hard way (see my reply to a post about "Swapping Out Engine" message in this forum).
While I don't have direct experience with Lexus cars, I can surmise that you won't get the kind of reliability out of an XJR that people report with the best Japanese cars. I have owned Jags over the last 20 years and have come to know just how important preventive maintenance is to these vehicles. They are not fragile, but you MUST pay close attention to any change inthe sound anddriving characteristics of your "Cat", and take corrective action immediately. Foremost, you MUST find a repair shop with technicians who know your vehicle inside and out, have the same level of love for the car that you have, and who are not dedicated to taking the very last penny from your contribution to your eldest grandchild's college fund! These are very hard standards to come by, indeed. But, if you are able to do this "dance" I am convinced that you will discover the pleasure of daily driving a car that will make driving a sheer joy.
I just completed a 4,000 mile trip through the South and received constant laudatory comments about the unique look of my car from young people at nearly every stop on my trip. All of this can really feed the ego and testosterone level of a true Jag-lover in ways that a relatively pedestrian vehicle like the big Lexus can never match! Let's not even speak of the ability of my 1999 XJR to keep even pace on lonely stretches of the interstates with anyof the latestCorvettes! (Please don't tell my wife about the last comment.)
