Hi all, hope your all fault free with your cars...I finally own a jag
my brother also has a jaguar xj8 with the conversion to a 4.2 v8 and we also own another jaguar sov 3.2 v8 2001 that we use for spares, now I own the executive xj8 3.2 2001, great car and lovely perlecent greeny colour, only it won't start lol, I know this is a very common issue as I have seen allot of threads about it, so I will start with what condition I brought it in,
Parked in the corner at a car dealers house covered in moss, my brother brought it for me for £500 as a project to bring it back to life, the dealer said it use to run but the battery died and now it won't start, so I trailered it home and begun diagnosis...I can smell fuel in the cylinders and I can hear the fuel pump hum away at the turn of the key, it cranks well and fast, but don't have a spark, so I changed the crank shaft sensor and still no spark, cleaned all earths, no change, checked each fuse and all are fine, changed all relays, still nothing, checked pin 1 and 4 on the coil plugs and there's power with ignision on or of, so changed all coils and still nothing, changed all spark plugs and still nothing, checked the big plug on the back of the bulk head and is very clean, swapped ecm and a small black unit under that and still nothing, every now and then when the battery gets low from cranking I get the fault codes on the dash saying Trac not available and some other things but goes away once iv re-charged the battery, iv read the fault code and only one comes up as p1000 but can't find any info on that, both key fobs UN lock and lock the car and I have 3 keys 1 being green and they all crank the car but still no spark, the car has done 140k with 2 former keepers and full jaguar service history,
Any advice from you guys would be much appreciated ..
Sorry if I posted my problem in the wrong area...
THANK YOU ALL
Matt

Today I removed all connections and cleaned of any corosion, there was quite a bit but I still have no spark, next I removed the fuse boxes and cleaned connections underneath, still nothing, I tried swapping the module over behind the glove box and still made no difference, I then removed most of the dash and checked wiring and connections even under the steering colum, and tried a brand new battery with a jumper attatched and still no spark, I'm running out of ideas now and would really appreciate any advice to get it started,
Thanks
Thanks
There's a security feature that may need resetting within the ecu/bcm. This may have been tripped when being moved.
It may be as well to replace all the car's original modules then a trip to your local specialist with IDS or Autologic to reset it.

I think iv changed every module now, is there any way I can reset it my self, also if that was tripped would it still crank over?
Thanks

As Sean said. "Swapping" ECU will not help you. You need Autologic/IDS to reprogram. And the symptoms you are describing are right on. The car will crank as usual, but no ignition. Call on some Indys in your area, and ask how much they would charge (prices vary WILDLY in the States). That's your best option.
Report back when you sort it out. Good luck.

The wash does have a spark, it's the compression it's lacking. (and here I assume that OP checked for spark with the plugs removed) By now (no spark and constant cranking), it's washed for sure.

Thanks for the replys, when I checked for a spark I removed a coil of each side and used brand new spark plugs to check for a spark by putting them in the removed coils, earthing them and having my brother turn the engine over,
I'll phone around a few shops for prices on the reprogram, should I put the original ecm in or leave the one in that I swapped with?
Thanks for all your help...
