New XJR owner looking for general tips
Hi all,
I'm a happy new owner of an 03' XJR and am just looking for some general tips on things I should watch out for, pay attention to and inspect on my upcoming round of general maintenance.
My maiden voyage was about 1200 miles in a single sitting, wich went quite well and I'm getting ready to do a general service this weekend.
I've read a lot about the timing chain tensioners on this forum and am under the impression that I shouldn't have to worry about these on an 03' model provided there's no abnormal noise on a cold start, off idle when warm, etc...
Trans feels good and tight, smooth and quiet. I'm going to change the oil, give a good once over on all the other major systems. Suspension, diff, brakes, leak check top and bottom, etc.. Any pointers would be appreciated. I'm pretty mechanically inclined, used to be ASE certified back in the early 00's but have never owned a car quite like this. I know they typically require a little more love than other cars, but am happy to oblige as they provide more in return. One thing I don't have a lot of experience with are superchargers, read some posts about the supercharger oil; can someone elaborate a little on that? I'd also love to know where to get a factory service manual.
A couple things I found right off the bat are the subwoofer (pretty typical from my understanding) and my driver's side seat heater doesn't seem to be working (at the same time the PS does). Light comes on, just no heat. I'll start with the connectors under the seat and see what comes up.
Any recommendations would be appreciated, fluids, pointers, or otherwise. Thinking about some RP 0W-40 for the engine.
Thanks in advance,

Nice car! Check out the electrical link in my signature. Charging and starting problems are common but easily fixed. If the wires don't fix your seat heat problem, do a search of my posts, there's one called "seat heat solved" it covers the goofy thermostats they installed in the seat itself.
You are in luck for the manual. Check out the "sticky" on the forum header page for "JTIS". Thats the service manual. Check the archives for the "EPC" which is the electronic parts catalog. then look for an old post by motorcarman for the factory engine overhaul manual. why that is not on a sticky, I don't know.
Thanks guys, I'll check out these items and let you know how things turn out. My maintenance will have to wait till next weekend however, due to quite a bit of snow up here and more on the way.
