Default newb with a 98 xj8

I have a 98 xj8L, im looking for what type of oil the engine uses. I have tried the search option but cant find anything.

Also need the trans fluid type, thanks

5W-30 Is what mine take, so should be the same for you. And I would use synthetic (since its such a modern engine) and Mobil1.

You are in Houston so a bit heavier oil might be considered. I am in SW Florida and run 10w40 in mine and there are members here who say go all the way to 20w50. Castrol dino is what Jag recommends, btw, and I have stayed with it. I was amazed at how clean my engine was inside during a recent tear down.
