Hey folks,
I currently have these 16" rims on my 98 XJ8 VDP (225/60/16 tire size). The chrome on the front rims is peeling badly and causing slow air leaks. Looking for recs on any other time period-appropriate OEM replacements rims that would be 1:1 compatible.
I'm seeing these on FB Marketplace, and wondering if they would be a compatible swap?
I had my Penta wheels redone by a wheel re-finisher, he did an excellent job. Mine were discolored and a couple curb rashes as well. I've seen these guys fix rims that were bent by hard curb hits.
This was shortly after they were redone about 8 yrs ago...
This was a few months ago and still looking good, the pic was with the car in the garage, thus it having brake dust and the reflecting color.
You can review member wheels for sale in the top task bar, 5th option from the left The Marketplace, prompt Member Marketplace and do some shopping. There is also a interweb site, car-part.com that will link you with recycle yards. When you fill out the form it will give you a list of the wheels to choose from and who is advertising them. NOTE: your wheel lug pattern is 5x120.65 (5x4.75), anything OEM Jag after 2003 won't fit. If you want to see the available wheel sizes, here ya go... https://www.wheel-size.com/size/jaguar/xj/1998/
Your sidewall is a tall 60, mine is a performance wide 255 and shorter sidewall 40...your narrower 225 and taller 60 will give you a smoother ride.

Be aware that many styles will have EXPOSED lug nuts. If you want to get pretty ones, a new set of 20 from a dealer will run into the hundreds of dollars. I ran Gorilla 73187SMB on my factory 16" wheels. A full set of Gorilla lugnuts sells for just over $62.
The problem with the hubcaps is that they are plastic and tend to warp slightly over time.
Then they rattle and depart the wheel.(or somebody with a missing cap removes yours in a parking lot)
New ones were about $140 each years ago and I don't know if they are NLA?
I have a 99 VDP with those wheels that was dropped off at my shop because a customer was missing a few hubcaps.
The car he brought me was a VDP with a seized engine that he bought for $350.
He took the hubcaps and a few other parts he needed and dropped the car off with the title.
He lived in an apartment so had no place for it and no use for the car.
The car was unloaded off the rented trailer and he drove away.
He said the car was cheaper to buy and get 4 hubcaps than if he found new ones.
Yeah, it is a shame that parts for these cars fetch such a premium.
If one has the space for one, now would be an especially good time
to acquire a parts vehicle as these ladies begin to show their age and
require numerous overly expensive replacement parts.
Especially if you can acquire one for the stunning price of $350!!!
