OBD Socket problems!

OBD Socket problems!
2001 XJR. Have the 'check eng.' and 'restricted performance' indicators showing, plugged in my normal codes reader to find out why, and it seems the diagnostic socket has failed as my reader cannot connect. Any ideas guys, PLEASE?
