Unhappy Oil dipstick removal

Hi Guys

Finally managed to get the correct gaskets for the cam covers on my 2000 XJR and have set about checking the secondary tensioners.

Got the cam cover off the right hand bank with no major issues and fount that the car has the 1st gen tensioners. Got the replacement tensioners and bolts along with the locking tools so good to go.

Problem is I cannot remove the left hand cam cover as the oil dipstick tube will not move. I did think of cutting the tab that holds it to the cam cover with my dremel but I am struggling to get the dremel in due to numerous pipes etc in the way.

Is there any method of removing the tube apart from brute force ? If I can get it to lift about an inch it should clear the stud it attaches to and allow access to the cam cover bolt underneath.

Thanks

The tube should lift up enough for the tab to clear the stud. Then carefully bend the tube towards the fender enough to remove the valve cover. Don't fully remove the tube - I have read that it is very difficult to get back in

With a pair of heavy duty wire cutters, I was able to cut the tab and then bend it back far enough to allow the dipstick to be moved aside.

I just jiggled/pulled until it came out. It is a pressed it fit and is indeed hard to get aligned to go back in.

It's not difficult to replace if you don't pull the dipstick out. Motorcarman supplied this tip originally. Thanks again Bob

From personal experience, this sounds like the ticket.

I use a 'hook-tool' and a small slide hammer to dislodge the tube.
LEAVE THE DIPSTICK IN THE HOLE. It is longer than the tube and will guide the tube back into the hole when you are done.

If it is your car, you can do whatever way you want, but cutting/damaging other peoples car parts seems to PI$$ them OFF.

I pull the tube but cutting the tab will work if the tube is STUCK!!!
