Oil Leak above Aircompress. X308 Where from?
On my 1999 x308 AJ27 4.0, I have a small but persistent oil leak from above the Air compressor, (see diagram below) but where from exactly? Is there a common failiure point around this area apart from the timing cover bolts in that area itself?
The base of the air compressor (towards the ground ) is covered with oil droplets as is the side of the engine block next to the aircompressor.
There is a static cylinder above the air compressor , labelled "whats this " in diagram ( seems to be a coil in it?), it too has oil droplets at its base.
Obviously im thinking of taking the big idler pulley above this area off and checking the timing cover bolts in its vicinity.
Apart from this possibilty is there any other potential oil leak area to consider?
The front oil seal on the crank is new and it is all dry , so that's not an issue.
best regards
Peter

That is not an idler wheel above the a/c comprressor....that is your power steering pump.
The other 'wheel' you have pointed to is the spring loaded section of the
serpentine belt tensioner.

yes you are right , it is the powersteering pump drive, not an idler pulley.
will look to see if its a cam cover leak. I had one on the rear on the other side and just tightened the bolts carefully and that's now good.
Accesss here is a problem though. Maybe i'll disconnect the pulley on the powersteering pump, shall see.
