Oil leak from bolt in front of engine
I have a 2003 xj8. It is leaking about a half quart of oil every two weeks from a bolt that is located in the center of the engine just above the oil pan. It is located underneath a half moon shaped casting in the engine that sort of surrounds the bolt on the top. I don't know what that bolt does so I don't want to just take it out incase it actually controls something inside the engine as I can not see that it performs any useful task on the out side of the engine. I have not found a single book that shows it or talks about it. Thank you for any help you can give me. Mark

If it is the bolt pointed at by the yellow line on the picture, then the leak is pass the gasket of the timing cover towards the bolt hole. If you don't want to replace the gasket at this time (big job), you may be able to stop or reduce the leak if you take the bolt out (it is not very tight) and screw it back in with with a copper or aluminium washer under it

From the description, it sounds like a just posted problem that includes a picture of the leak area (and a solution).
