Hello,

I have noticed my (relatively new to me) XJR-100's oil light stays on for about 2 seconds after cranking.

I appreciate this is normal after an oil change, but do others have this with their daily driver?

check oil level, perhaps add .5 quart, see if problem persists

Have never had the problem -- what weight oil?

I would make sure all OK -- could be the sender .. don't thin they are very expensive.

 

As already suggested this could be due to oil level, sender or sender harness.

It is often a consequence of using an oil filter that doesn't have a non-return valve.

OE Jaguar filters have a non-return valve in the filter which prevents oil draining back down into the oil pan as the vehicle stands. On starting, it takes a few seconds to prime the filter again and build up pressure.

Many aftermarket filters will physically fit the X308 but don't have the non-return valve.

Oil level is the first thing I checked, it's half way between max and min, where I like to keep it. I'll try taking it to max and see.

Oil is 5W30 synth.

I thought here in Switzerland the garages only deal with OEM parts, but as the car was serviced and tested by the chap selling it, they way well have used after market. Do the Jaguar ones have JAGUAR plastered all over them? This one just looks white looking through the bonnet.

Even if the filter is original it may be deffective. The first thing i'd do is tha oil/filter change, then if the problem persists - the oil pressure sender check.
If the oil/filter and the sender are fine, then it's time to check the oil pump and the whole oiling system.
Actually for me it seems to be a filter problem, used to have such a symptoms on a various vehicles, most of them were caused by the oil filter.

 

OE Jaguar filters are white with JAGUAR name, logo and additional details in green.
