One side of headlamps failed?
Hi All,
Yet another tale of woe for you.
My low beam went on the passenger side (driver's side for our North American colleagues).
So I jiggled and jiggled and messed up one of the bulb sockets on the loom.
I got another from eBay, plugged it in and had low beam and side lights working but no high beam this time.
So I unplugged the loom, checked it out visually and found what looked to be grease in the holes! Very strange. Anyway I cleaned it out as best I could, plugged it in and now I have no lights at all on the passenger side at the front.
I am beginning to hate this car but before I introduce it to the searing heat of petrol does anyone have any idea what could be going on here?
Thanks,
Joe

are your bulbs good? Now you know how to remove and install the sockets you'll need to inspect the wires running to it, old wire gets brittle particularly when amps are a way of life...
Another place to check are the dome head earth nuts just behind the lamp housings on the flat panel beneath. Remove the ring terminals and clean them. They're earth points for the lamps...
The grease I think you removed was dielectric and a conductor/protector of the terminals, you'll also need to put a light coat on them, halfords should have it. Have you put a simple V meter on the terminals with the lamps enabled yet? See if you have power there before cleaning ends and such.
Hope this helps

Hi Guys,
I've finally finished for Christmas and have had a few precious moments to look into this further.
I've checked fuses and relays (but from what I've learned the relays are for both sides but I looked anyway).
I've got the ground nut off, sanded off corrosion and replaced.
I put a multimeter on it just now and through the pins at the harness terminal as per this diagram Jaguar XJ6; Jaguar X300; X308 headlights
I get voltage at all 3 live pins for the lights from both ground pins, so I'm thinking that I do indeed have power going there.
In light of this what else could it be? All bulbs are good so could it be I got a bad replacement harness from ebay or anything else I could do to troubleshoot this one?
Yours,
Joe
