Default Overhead console: walnut upgrade completed

I've always wanted a walnut panel for my overhead console. I got a somewhat poor condition overhead console with wood panel off ebay for $50 since all I really wanted was the wood panel. I swapped the wood onto my console and it looks great.

I recommend this upgrade, it's not a big deal but it's much nicer than the plastic tan panel.

Just checked ebay. There are several in clean condition. With shipping the price is just over $70. I wonder how much would the trim piece be by itself? I guess I can buy it and then re-sell it with my replacement trim panel swapped...

Certainly is much nicer. It's the details like this that make all the difference.

$50 well spent.

the jaguar factory price for a new wood trim piece by itself is $115, some online dealership parts departments are selling it for $90something. it's cheaper to buy a used one off ebay and swap it yourself

As XJR02 pointed out, these can be bought on eBay. Be sure to look at the close up picks. These are used parts and may have scratches. Also, the listings with "best offer" option will allow you to negotiate with the seller.

yeah it's not a difficult project, but the panels are glued onto the console unit with some sort of substance similar to what a new credit card is secured to the paper they send it with, but stickier. I used a small screwdriver and then a butter knife to carefully separate the wood from the used unit and my tan part from my original console unit. I then used "rubber cement" to glue the wood part onto my original part, and clamped the wood on there for a few hours to get a good solid connection. also beware that the wood part has 4 small metal "fingers" that you need to bend up to allow the wood part to be removed from the console.

of course if you get a nice condition entire unit, all you have to do is swap the entire part and re-program your garage door buttons, or swap your garage door module etc. everything detaches with small screws.

XJR, Vanden Plas, Super V8, and I think it might be an option for others, but I'm not sure at all this is just a guess

I swapped mine today with a nice complete unit from Ebay. Looks very nice and the swap was easy, I just had to re-program the Home Link garage door opener.

I have to swap my Homelink unit because training the unit would involve waiting to borrow a working remote.

But, it is also a good time to bodge an antenna upgrade while the unit is out.
