Default P0102 and Restricted Performance. Need help!

Hello All,

I was driving down the road, minding my own business, when....

I felt the car have a small stumble, then the dreaded restricted performance came on. The car ran fine, but is in restricted performance mode.

I searched and found that the code 0102 was something to do with the MAF, so I:

Cleared the code, it instantly came back

I swapped back to my original/stock MAF, still got restricted performance
so I then did a hard reset (touching battery cable for 15 seconds), and restarted and the restricted performance is still on. Tried clearing the code, came back.

I'm confused and need a little help.

I have swapped back to original stock and did a hard reset, but the restriced performance code persists.

Any suggestions?

You might want to check the continuity between the MAF connector and the ECU. Maybe a wire broke in the MAF harness near the MAF connector. I assume it got a fair amount of handling when you upgraded your MAF.

I fixed one broken wire. Still have restricted performance.

I'll have to take a look at all the other wires.

It makes sense that it is probably still another broken wire somewhere since the problem is the same with the stock and new MAFs.

Update,

Still has restricted performance P0102

I removed the extra connector for the 92mm MAF, and put everything back to stock (wiring and MAF), all the connections look good.

Still confused....

Yes, hard reset + multiple code scanner thingy cleared attempts. Says codes cleared, then it comes back...

Maybe the connector itself has a break? I can check that...

Update,

Checked connector, all wires intact. Still getting p0102

I may take it down to my local indy mechanic tomorrow and see what they find. I am no mechanic.

No matter what, it will get fixed, one way or another.

I'll report back when we've found the cause and fixed it.

There is a small engine management fusebox next to the larger fusebox under the hood on the XJ. Check fuse # 12 (a 10 amp fuse) there.

Thumbs up Nice!

It probably was caused by the broken wire(s), but if it happens again, there may be something funky about the new MAF.

What works? Was it the fuse that was broken? I'm having the same warning, so I may have to check that fuse too.

Yes, in my case after re-attaching the broken green (MIDDLE) wire on the connector to my MAF, it was only after replacing that burnt fuse that it was all working again.
Ignore the connector in the left in the photo, that was the one for the up graded 92mm MAF, the one I am holding is the stock one.

You might want to snag this used MAF for cheap. $60 OBO on ebay right now:

Used Air Mass Meter for A Jaguar XJR 99 03 and XKR 2000 2002 | eBay

Anyone else chime in if I'm wrong, but I think the XJ and XJR uses the same MAF
