Default Paint repair

Looking to get opinions, if this is something I can fix myself, or if it'd require taking it to a shop.

Part of hood looks dull, roof looks abysmal.

Thanks
-Frankie.

Getting the damaged clear coat off without damaging the top coat is an arduous process.
It can be done, it just takes a lot of time, energy, and most of all patience. There may be
products available today, that make it easier.

Knowing to not take much off the base coat color ( just to remove oxidation , if that is possible, and still leave enough base coat ) can you use a rounded pillow shape abrasive holder and watch for color change being left on abrasive pillow ?

I severally damaged my clearcoat using a too strong clothing detergent to cut wax and get to a no wax observation to come up with a good observation , base coat oscitation accrued after clear coat sections came off over periods of time

Left strong soap on too long as was dealing with illness

In a painfully arduous process I once managed to remove the complete clear coat layer on my X-Type (careful use of a cutter knife mainly and water pressure cleaner) - without damaging the paint.
Then successfully applied new clear coat.
Now my bonnet (hood) shows similar signs. I helped off the first bits of clear coat flakes with a water pressure cleaner. It will take a while for the rest to follow, especially as the car is currently not used and under cover. The UV light of the sun would help to remove the rest more easily....

But in regards of the pictures shown in the initial post/question above: The damage is not big enough yet. Maybe there is a chemical way, about which I do not know, to remove the old clear coat layer WITHOUT damaging the paint underneath, but I'd assume that a complete sand off, base coat, paint and clear coat "operation" is required here.

If the base coat were non metallic it would be possible to remove the clear coat with wet 800 grit and respray clear coat. But with metallic base coat the sanding would change the appearance of the paint and it would be necessary to respray the base coat.

I was using a combination of 40 micron abrasive along with an older style liquid
rubbing compound. If one is VERY careful the clear coat can be removed however
once removed the reflection of the paint changes in that area. Using a good paint booth
is required to even get close to the original paint reflection. In truth, sanding it down and
a respray would be far less labor intensive.

Sorry the paint has failed and the only solution is to sand it off and repaint.
All these half-*** methods will look exactly like that.

I was looking to get by on my 1996 X300 ( not original thread opener ) with minimum effort / cost on clear coat peeling but may not be the case

Paint and clear was gorgeous until put too strong a soap to get to pure clearcoat and no residuals of wax

My paint is an original Jaguar color code X Nautical named mica version / type ( Blue / Green turns in sunlught )

Do like the suggestions of pressure washer to aid to an extent as never thought of that

Wondering if mica falls under the same consideration as metallic in sanding prep

If not I now know to go with a new base coat of my choice

I just stumbled across a youtube video, which shows, how to repair such a damage:
It's in German (which I understand, but you probably wouldn't), but that does not matter, because the pictures speak for themselves. He also chose a new paint-approach, starting with 2 layers of primer.

That's clear coat failure try sanding it with 2000 grit till its flat and then use polishing compound but it may eat up more clear and still look dull . That's large part of the car its possible to paint it with cans but don't expect showroom results . If you have air compressor the diy it but you should know what you're doing . Otherwise just find shop that would fix it with reasonable price always ask for HS clear coat .
