With our aging x150's i'm sure I cannot be alone in this, the sun has done a number on my ultimate black paint's clear coat.
I notice a milky looking faded clear coat on my roof and parts of my hood, the sides do not show this as they get less sun.
I've wet sanded a section of my roof with 1000 grit and then polished with a dual-action polisher, it looked great but unfortunately
this was a temporary fix and the milky faded pattern has return.
Would wet sanding and spraying an addition 2k clear layer solve this, or is this a full base coat re-paint job?
I've been seriously considering a full vinyl wrap in some crazy color, just to mix things up. WAY less than a full good paint job, and you can go back any time, even if it's faded and milky underneath.
I bit the bullet last fall and had a few areas of the car repainted at the same shop that does most of my mechanical work (They are also a full service body shop) No substitute for good paintwork. Trunk, tonneau cover, spoiler and windshield surround were all faded. Plenty of other parts of the car have had paintwork over the years so no worries about originality and the color/quality is spot on. Between the new top and paintwork in 2024 I spent a few bucks sprucing the car up but totally worth it IMO.
mind if I ask about what it took $$$ wise to get a new top. Yours looks great!

As for your convertible top, this thread should answer your questions. Prices and quality vary, and you get what you pay for. You might want to buy it from a local installation shop to get a longer warranty. This was my experience: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...lation-284476/

Vinyl wrap and PPF have come a very long way in quality, colour selection and finish, often nearly indistinguishable from paint. IF I ever has to re-apint a car, I'd go with wrap, easy to install and remove making it easy to change to another style anytime. Paint only looks good when done correctly and it's expensive.
