Part load breather hose removal help please 2000 xj8 vdp
I just got it running a couple days ago, this morning she didn’t want to start. Finally got her started, but was really rough. After holding accelerator at 2k rpm for a minute, it finally evened out.
found that my patch on the plb hose had come undone. The old one was broken at the nipple and again cleanly through about 3” from the nipple. So, been trying to get my old hose off to replace it. I can’t get the middle connector off. I’ve tried snap ring pliers and screw drivers, but I can’t get anything to fit down there. It’s such a weird angle and there’s so much in the way.
ive read 20 posts, but no one mentions how to get to this connection. Yes, I could just break it... but how would I safely get the new one on?
Ive got two wires tied and taped to the old hose, and it’s tied to the bonnet strut, so I’ve got that covered. Two because with my luck, one would break.
ugh
this cat hates me!

Are you typing about the steel connector on the throttle elbow? The special tool (plastic 'horseshoe') is the one to use but I still need to use a prybar along with the tool when the plastic gets stiff from age.
A new PLB hose is not that expensive. Parts suppliers on this forum and PARTS GEEKS have it.

Well, hmmm
i couldn’t release the tabs because they were broken. Had to get a step ladder and lay on the engine to see. Even on a 55 degree sunny day, all that black engine gets hot! It wouldn’t come out because it seems to have partially melted, but since I knew the tabs were broken, I spent a couple minutes wiggling with screw drivers and it finally popped out.
so since joes law has already hit, and will continue to, any suggestions on installation, when everything goes wrong that possibly could? Tips, tricks, prayers? Murphy doesn’t have anything on me when it comes to this cat.
edit-
i am now at the other end, by the firewalll. I figured out how to remove the spring clip on the rubber hose, but it’s stuck on there. Sigh
i haven’t seen the horseshoe tool. I read that it was near the throttle body, or under/in it... but don’t see it.
ive got the part load breather hose. One of the first things that I bought after I bought the car. It was taped together when I got it last spring. Just never got to changing it until today.
the cat has been down twice, the last time for nearly 3 months. Just got it back running last week. I got stuck after changing the failed starter. Finally got the money to take it to a shop. After $1600 they said that it needed pistons and timing chains. Alternator had gone too, but I didn’t catch it. I told them it needed bore washed and explained the weird way to start the 4.0 that someone here, my hero, was so very helpful of providing. They totally dismissed me, and I towed it back home and got her running with just a bore wash and the flooring technique. She was purring... but evidently didn’t like the huge storm last night. There was a drop of water in the piece of the hose that was broken, somehow. This cat hates water more than it hates me.
