Passenger blower motor inop
Hello all,
I'm just brought home my XJR-100 (photos in separate thread), and have been working to get it sorted. It has low air flow from the AC/vent ducting.
I poked around to try and pull foam out (per the threads I searched here), and did not find any trapped in the drivers side, and in observing the passenger side discovered the passenger blower isn't working at all. I can see the squirrel cage with the glove box dropped and it isn't turning at all. I tapped it while it should be 'on', no change.
The car did not come with an owners manual, which I have ordered, but as of now I am hunting blind. I pulled the fuse panels in the back seat, but don't know which is for that blower motor.
Does the motor have a relay and/or regular that could have failed?
I can spin the motor by hand, so it isn't locked up.
Any help, would be great!
Doug

Doug:
Each motor IS fed by a separate fuse- in the heel board fuse panels. That's the ones at the rear seat passenger's heel position. The #11 fuse on the RH side runs the passenger (US) blower and the one on the LH side runs the driver's blower.
After the fuse is a relay, which I did not bother looking up the location of, since you should check the fuses first. The drawing indicates that each blower has a series speed control transistor integral to the blower assembly, but I have never actually seen one to know what it looks like. I am pretty sure that few, if any, blown motor controllers have been reported here.
Boy, if this is your only problem, you are a lucky man! Keep us posted.

Thanks Ross,
I checked the # 11 fuse behind the passenger side heel panel, and it was good, at least visually. I swapped it with the drivers side unit, and it functioned with that unit - so the fuse is OK.
Do you know where this relay is located? I found the plug for the passenger blower motor and it appears to be a direct (2 wire) connection to the motor....I was unable to trace its origin amongst the other bundles of wires in the area.
I can try and tap my multi-meter into the plug for the motor, do you know what I would be looking for?
Electrical issues are not my strong suit, normally if something doesn't work I just replace it - but I don't have that luxury with this blower motor.
Edit: I found this thread, and will poke around for this controller tomorrow - hopefully it will be this easy of a fix!

Ok, so I got my owners manual packet, which told me that two of the three micro-relay's in the passenger side rear heel compartment controlled the left and right blowers respectively.
I rotated the position of all three relay's - no change in behavior. Drivers side blower works, passenger side does not.
Can anyone help me from here?
Thanks, Doug

Sounds like you might need to replace the blower motor ($324 from parts geek). Might want to check wiring continuity at the motor -- but since fuses and relays work, it sounds more like a bad motor. Might pull it and run continuity tests (a simple brush replacement may be all you need). Lots of good independent auto electric shops in SOCAL.
Also might get one from a junkyard -- lots around you and you need to replace some missing stuff -- or the Jag breaker in Stockton.
See if you can grab the workshop manual from the Stickies.

Yes, I was coming to that unfortunate conclusion myself as well...great way to start out Jag ownership. Having to replace something that is a pain, that doesn't appear to be a very regular/normal problem.
I'm trying to figure out how to get JTIS onto my computer as well, it seems like that is a battle unto itself.
