Default The perfect match paint for Asteroid wheels

Hello, everyone. I am new to the Jaguar forum but I am a 32 year long luxury and exotic automobile collector, and I do all of my own work and restorations, and I am as fussy as they come. While going thru some of the past post, I saw several people looking for a good match paint for Jaguar wheels. I just bought my 7th Jaguar, a beautiful silver/black 2001 XJR in near mint condition, and I am giving the wheels a total going over and cleaning. I have had to paint one inside wheel as well as a small repaired area near the center cap, and I remembered that I had several cans of The Eastwood Company's 'DETAIL SILVER' paint. I had used this paint on some TR-6 engine parts and on a few Ferrari wheels in the past and it always matched everything very well, but I used it on the Jag and it is a spot on match, I mean perfect to the point of where I cannot see where I just painted. I think I read where people were using a dupli-color silver, but trust me, this wheel paint is what you want. I have the Asteroid wheels, but I believe this paint will work for any Jaguar silver wheels and match perfectly. The best part about this paint is that it is a high solids paint, so covers beautifully in just a few thin coats and even has the correct matching sheen. Anyway, try some, you will be turning handstands over the results.

Sounds like just the ticket. Especially as it is a high solids paint.

BTW, welcome to the forum. Please enjoy yourself.

Thanks, Plums. I will do that. I need to post pictures of my new car once I finish my detailing work (just got the car last week), so will be sure to photograph that wheel in detail also. Thanks for the welcome aboard!

I took a look on Eastwood's site - Did you use the aerosol? That seemed to be all I could find.....

Thank you

Hi, Fairlane. Yes, I used the 12 oz spray can. With this paint's high solids content, it sprays out nicely and evenly giving very professional results. I have had great success with all Eastwood paint products over the years in my various automotive restorations, their paints are very high quality. They also make a clear sealer top coat spray if more gloss is desired, and that works very well also. As I said, I have used this paint over the years on many of my cars wheels and various engine bay parts, from Ferraris and Maseratis to BMW's, and it has always given me excellent results.

Thanks - I only have a minor curb skuff, and I was looking for something I could apply with a small brush. Any ideas?

Hi, Fairlane. In the past I have gone to an auto body supplier who has one of those hand held meters that 'reads' paint color on the wheels or any part of the car you want to match, and then they can whip up a pint, quart, or spray can in whatever size you want in a matching laquer or enamel to match that paint, and I have found this works really well for use in small brush touch ups. I did also just do some small brush touch up on my current wheels, mostly around the rim edge, by just spraying some of the Eastwood Detail Silver paint into the paint cap and applying with the small brush and that worked well. I use a general body shop all purpose solvent for clean up, making the touch up process simple and quick.

Hello, Vincent. Gun metal gray would look really great on these wheels. I have not seen any in black, but I think that would look good and agressive to boot, in particular on an anthracite vehicle. This wheel style is so attractive and would lend itself well to quite a few colors.
