Pinging Sound VS Timing Chain Sound
I'm trying to figure out what I'm hearing.
On acceleration I hear what sounds like pinging.
It doesn't always happen and it might even go away with better gas. I always use premium but who knows what I'm actually getting
Anyway, will failing/worn tensioners sound like this and only when under load like this? The engine is quiet upon cold start up.
What symptoms does a worn lower tensioner sound like?
I want to make sure I'm chasing the right issue.
Thanks
Eric

If you have any doubt (which you obviously do or you wouldn't have posted
), and you don't know that you have Gen III tensioners, I would suggest you have a look before driving it any more. The risk for a major engine disaster is just too great to fool around wondering.
By the way- It is not "worn tensioners" you should worry about... the tensioners have a propensity for sudden mechanical failure!
