Default Plastic Tensioners

Good morning and Happy Easter,
Ordering components to replace the plastic timing chain tensioners.
I am being asked for an applicable engine, AJ26 etc.
I believe that it is an AJ27 , but would like some ideas as to
where to find this designation.the year is 2003 ,XJ8,4.0L
and the last of the serial # is LF59161.
Any advice or information is appreciated.
Thank you ,
Buddy

I am not sure where you are ordering from but most knowledgeable Jaguar suppliers are going to want the last six digits of the VIN number to correctly classify the parts. A ton of Jag parts are VIN specific not engine number specific.
Being a 2003 the engine would be the AJ27 but that isn't enough for getting the right parts. The primary tensioners come in 2 lengths based on VIN.

Default Plastic tensioners

I had called the local Jag Dealer and asked questions.
I gave him the serial number and he told me that
information would get me close , I would need the engine number also to get the exact fit part.
After, i went on line to search for the parts and was not asked for the serial but reference was made to the engine #.
I felt a need to ask questions of someone who could give unbiased information and hopefully shed light on what
info was required to get correct parts.
Thank you, any and all information is appreciated.

The 'Morse' style primaries as well as metal bodied tensioners were fitted to engines from S/N 0108130000 onward.

Your engine likely has the newer style chains/tensioners so UPDATING is not necessary.
The chains/tensioners might be worn and need replacement, but that would need to be determined by visual inspection.

The PRIMARY chains/guides are different from the engines BEFORE S/N 0108130000.
The secondaries are the same type for all 4.0 V8 engines.

The reason i thought it may need new tensioners, I recently noticed a ticking noise inside the driver side valve cover .
As the idle increases the ticking increases. I doesn't seem to affect the performance of the motor and after reading about the plastic parts
i was of the mind set that this could be the reason. The car only has 107000 miles and runs strong.
