Default Problem with my 2000 XJ8 VDP dashlights

I have an intermittant problem with my dash lights. Sometimes some of them do not come on. Other times they delay, then come on after some driving. Still other days, the ones under my tachometer do not come on. The fact that they all eventually come back on tells me that the bulbs are not bad. I have no idea what the problem could be. Is there a quick fix or is this something that could be a battery voltage problem? I know in the past, the car's electrical systems were VERY sensitive to fluctuations in the battery voltage.

Rablaw1971,

I've moved your question from Jaguar Forums Feedback & Suggestion Centre to X308 forum. The Feedback & Suggestion Centre is for posts about the forum and not for technical questions.

Members here with the same model will be able to help.

Graham

Two places to look at. 1) Wiring harness connector to instrument panel. There are a couple dozen tiny pins. If the harness does not go in straight, 1 or 2 pins may make intermittent connections. You may have to pull the connector out and push back in a few times and turn on the lights to see if everything comes on. 2) Check bulb socket to printed circuit board connection. That connection is always problematic. Twist the bulb into the board not completely all the way in and it may work then.

I have to check my Jag and Mercedes this weekend for the same thing.

Good luck!

While you have the connector apart shoot some electrical cleaner in the connectors. It's not real hard to get to the dash pod connections, you just need to be sure you don't drop a screw, and be careful pulling the wood piece off. Oh, and it helps to move the steering wheel out of the way. There is stuff in the archives on this

Btw, I just did #2 in my above post on my Mercedes and the light came back on. I had to fiddle with until it did not blink off.
