Default Pulley Swap and Snout Grinding Fun...on the car

Aight, so yesterday I "perfected" my pulley puller from scrap I had sitting around (broken old 2 jaw puller, 2 pieces or aluminum and 2 old ford head bolts).

(The SC in my background is my spare 3rd gen SC)

Today I took the hood off, removed the thermostat housing assembly and went to work.

Here are the weapons of choice and the snout after some grinding.

The instructions say to grind the snout down to 54mm. The snout is originally just a notch below 58mm so there is a lot to grind off, I hope it doesn't crack off when I step on it

Since it's kind off hard to trial fit the pulley to see if you ground off enough find something of same/similar size to slide onto the snout for trial fit. I used an old bearing race. I keep all bearing parts as they are great for using with the press.

That's it for now. I didn't install the pulley yet as I'm taking a rest for a few minutes as it's 90* outside. I'll update shortly

Well, I just tried to install the new pulley and ran into a snag.

I heated it up per instructions and slipped it on, but after it cooled off it's loose on the shaft!.

I send an e-mail to the Powerhouse Automotive guys (that's where I got it from) so hopefully they can guide me as to what to do. I bought the pulley last year and barely got around to installing it because of the differential issues etc so I really hope they can make it right even thou it was a while back. I'll keep you guys updated. I really wanted to go for a ride today.

I bought my pulley from Powerhouse and the fits tightly on the shaft. When I heated the pulley it slid onto the shaft but locked in place within a few seconds. Like you I
was pretty worried that removing so much material from the snout would crack it but no problems after 1500 miles.
Mine turned ugly colors when I heated it and now looks terrible. Did yours change color?
Good luck getting everyone sorted. The increase in midrange power, and the whale from the blower, are totally worth your efforts. Add a pair of highflow cats to your wish list

@Adam, you need to speak to Lawson.

Did you try it before heating it up to see about tolerances?

What is the diameter of the shaft?

Lawson responded right away. Looks like their customer service is top notch as he offered to immediately send me a new pulley. The e-mail somehow ended up in my Spam mailbox and I didn't see it till today but I had a reply from him on Monday after sending him an e-mail Saturday night.

I'll let you guys know how it works out.

I have both, one off the 98 and one from 2004. They are the same. The snout is a bit different but the dimensions are the same.

ok, so I've been driving around with the new pulley. It's kind off hard to tell if there is an improvement since it's been over 100* here for the past few days. However I feel that my exhaust now sounds way different? Anyone else experienced that or is it all in my head?lol

I hear much more supercharger whine with my pulleybut no change from to the exhaust. The biggest power gain that I feel is in the midrange torgue.
Did you do a hard reset after the install?

Nice Pulley Adam.
I think i try the lower pulley from Powerhouse ,before i saved enough cash to get serieus power with the Twin Screw from Avos .
I see Powerhouse also got nice lowering springs for the XJ,
Maybe i jump on those too.

Anybody here got those XJ lowering springs from Powerhouse ?
I think it wont lower the XJR100 much because it already got a supersport springs but i hope it might make it a little bit stiffer, and thats my goal.

If you think you are going to go "Big Guns" with the twin screw anyway, you would get there 8-9% faster if you saved your money for that.

This is a good page to read why the TS is incomparably better http://kennebell.net/KBWebsite/Commo...romcatalog.pdf
