Default Question about care for 5HP24 trans.

Besides the fluid and filter change for my transmission, what else can I do to care for my transmission? Furthermore, what can Sports mode do to the transmission? Will it harm it more, or help with longevity because of the full gear engagement?

This concerns about all of the turbine transmissions. Do not burn tires. (rear or front or all), do not say in gear too long when standing. Don't accelerate very offten with full beans from the stand still. You can and it is okay to drive fast and spiritually. But not everyday. Use D for forward movement and J gate portion when needed.
Sport mode moves shift points up in rpm range. And possibly increases oil pressures in certain areas in valvebody. It does no harm. Torque is what destroys stuff, not HP. The confort mode does not leave gear in between or so. It only makes shifts softer and lower rpm. Softer shift can be acchieved by lowering control pressures, making pwm pulse shift longer and killing engine in specific moment -for example.

I’ve programmed the wife (the only 5HP24 trans car in the heard) when she starts the engine up cold to wait at least 15 seconds or until the idle comes down just under 1k rpm before shifting into any gear. Otherwise it’s like doing a neutral drop if you think about it. Excluding doing a major tear down to upgrade the A drum, you will most definitely want to have the main pressure regulator valve upgraded to further increase the reliability of these transmissions. I had our local trans rebuilder who has been at his shop since 1978 😳 install it.

There’s an upgraded valve available from Transgo that prevents the pressure spike that cracks A drums on these transmissions. I had them fitted in my previous two ZF XJ’s and made sure the fluid was changed properly too.

ZF and Jaguar have made it difficult to service these boxes as they were supposed to be sealed for life, but all of the kit is available to do it.

Yeah...."sealed for life" just means....We are going to make it difficult for you to monitor or service this transmission,
Your mileage may vary.

Yes, trans is good now, only the TB issue comes and goes. Quite certain it is a connection issue, mechanic keeps saying otherwise.

I always read it as 'sealed for the life, of the gearbox'.
