new to this forum....but not to jag ownership....simply put and probably addressed already on this forum.....what are the advantages/dis-advantages from....moveing from fossil to synthetic oil?....i have a 2000 xjs-long....a one minus....with jag certification......i am thinking of going to synthetic.....owners manual....silent on this issue......appreciate your thoughts.....

 

That's a loaded question!

There are thousands of people on this and other forums, that don't agree on the type of oil, and even more of them that don't agree on the brand, viscosity, and everything else.

The important question is,.....how often do you change it!?

If you change every 3-5K it really doesn't matter what type you use (as long as it meets the specs of course!). If you change it every 10-15K, you are taking a risk no matter what you use.

I use Castrol blend, and I change every 5K. That makes me feel safe, and that's all it matters.

And now the war of the opinions can begin!

 

I've always used Mobil 1 synthetic in all my cars. My 95 Grand Cherokee Limited has always had it since coming from factory and it has 170K miles on the original engine, no isssues. My Oldsmobile has 56K original miles and I've owned it 10 years, drained it and put in Mobil when i bought it. The Jag, i just bought, It had sat up for 2 years and previous owner wasn't kind to her so I've put Napa Synthetic in just to drive it around a few hundred miles then I plan on dropping it in a few weeks for new Mobil 1 syn with a can of Restore since it has 192K miles on it.
