Question about oil filters
I just bought a replacement oil filter at Jaguar an EAZ1354, which is black with a gold leaped and looks to be much smaller than the ones built years ago. Now, I went online and checked and it’s made for the 4.0 Jaguar but they also have for $5 less, the original larger white one with the green leaper but it’s a EBC 9658. What is the difference and is one better than the other or is it a marketing ploy?
I worked at the dealer when the 4.2 Jaguar V8 engines came along, the filter was changed to the shorter version.
When I went to the parts dept, I got the longer one given to me for the 4.0 and the shorter one for the 4.2.
I left the dealer and for a while I kept the same practice but I just use (and keep) the shorter version for all AJV8 engines lately.(Motorcraft FL2021)
Change the filter regularly and the smaller one shouldn't make a difference.

I have found that many filters interchange without respect to engine
size or type. Some claim a smaller filter net within the filter material,
thus allowing fewer suspended particles, but it would seem to me that
you would need to change the filter more often with those.
