Questions before buying a XJR.

I have a few questions, hopefully someone will be able to answer these.
Here is what i came up with for a list of common problems.
Waterpump/Themostat.
Chain guides.
Nikisomething cylinder walls.
Will all of these problems be fixed if i get the 2000+ model?
Search came up with nothing when i put in MPG, What is the average MPG that you guys are getting?
Few questions on performance mods. I have noticed that the most powerful mods (no nitrous) is the Supercharger Pully, Mount with bearing(??) and the ECU chip. Does anyone of or all of these mods? how well does the car react to them?
Thanks in advanced.

Get the 02+ model and for sure you'll have much fewer problems. As for performance...the ecu chip is over $1500, the mount with bearing I have no clue of what it is, and the supercharger pulley I do recommend. Expect no more then 14-15 mpg...realistically.

Here is where i found the mount.
http://www.paramount-performance.com/acatalog/Jaguar_XJ8_and_XJR_Engine_Upgrades.html
It says, Specially modified front super charger housing, with high speed performance bearings and upgrades pulley, suitable for combined fitting with Paramount’s upgraded crank shaft pulley.
Approx 20bhp power increase, when fitted on its own, or up to an impressive 50bhp when combined with the modified lower pulley .
I can not afford a 02+, but the 2000 is within my price range. What kind of problems would i be looking for? I am mechaniclly inclined and have no problems following guides on how to change timing chains, shocks and so on.

That's an upgraded front housing with a light weight pulley. I've heard of people completely upgrading the entire supercharger with a strong and better unit on the old xjR's, but not on the new ones. I think that the pulley upgrades are great and I know I gained A LOT of power when I added them to my 240sx. Great throttle response combined with a lightweight flywheel.

How hard are these cars to work on? Would it be realistic to be able to work on this these cars use following a service manual?
Are the 2000 models considered reliable?
Thank you for answering my questions btw.

I'd go with 01 just to be sure, because I think that the Nikasil bug bit a few 2000's as well. As for working on them, it depends how mechanically inclined you are. I personally could take the engine apart and put it back together, probably even do a decent job without a FSM. Would I actually do it without a FSM...heck no, but I know I could. Ask yourself how willing you are to work on your car and can you afford to be without the Jag for a few days should you F up.
