Default Quick Release Steering Wheel Adapter (X308)

I have a 1998 Vanden Plas with about 43,000 miles. I am an aging, tall, larger guy who doesn't fold and contort to slide in as well as I used to. I am considering installing a quick release steering wheel adapter on it (and an after-market nice steering wheel as I cant find an adapter for the X308 OEM wheel) so I can get in and out a little more politely. Currently it is quite an amusing exhibition for those watching my old bones climb in and out.

I realize I will lose the driver airbag and the steering wheel controls ... but would be well worth it for me as I am the only driver and willing to take a measured risk of doing so.

Most of the ones I have found extend the column length about 1 1/2 inches (even up to near 5 inches for some manufacturers).

Does anyone else have any experience installing/using a quick release steering wheel? Do you have a specific brand which worked best for you on a X308? I would not consider it, but I figure I can easily reinstall the original equipment later or if sold.

I recently purchased this X308-specific hub adapter in preparation for the potential addition of paddle shifters to my LS XJR. As the hub bolt pattern supports many of the aftermarket wheels out there, this might be something to consider as Sparco and others make racing wheels that could perhaps be quick release. It includes the proper resistor to ensure the ABS light goes out as well. Shipping was insanely fast when I got it (comes from Italy).

Thanks 57loboy, That is very helpful. I am not sure how I missed it in my searches. Most appreciative. You mentioned eventually adding paddle shifters, It makes me wonder if this might even also allow the inclusion of my existing steering wheel controls. Will order one and explore a bit further.

So long as the wheel you select has a mounting surface on the back that the binnacles could be attached to, I don't see why not. Happy hunting - keep us posted!

If you want a true quick release then go with the folks who race them and sell them to racers. Thing is I have not been into the Jag steering column to know the spline setup but most likely it is some Ford derivative. I would check with a local speed shop who races as well. One of Summit's locations is in McDonough, Georgia right off 75 (you being in the SE) and I've ordered from them numerous times and been in that store....always great service. If Summit doesn't have what I need (rarely), I head to Jegs. If Summit has it in stock it's usually 2 day standard UPS.
