Rack and Pinion
Ok,
In other posts I have mentioned a moaning or creaking coming from the front end but only when turning the wheel to the left(not moving, stationary), two shops thought it was the outer tie rod, so I replaced both. However it is still there. One shop thinks it's the rack itself, but I would tend to believe it would make the noise turning left or right. Right?
I kind of thought it was a lower ball joint but those we're replace 8 months ago, albeit I believe with Üro units.
Ideas?
Thanks,
Chris

Always include year and model information with your post please. If it is an 98-02 X308 XJ, you hear it only to the left, only while driving, your answer is a dry bearing most likely. The sealed bearings on these models wont feel loose, but the will make a loud groan when turning. In all my years as a Jaguar mechanic, I have yet to change one of these racks for noise.

When not moving? That's interesting... My suggestion would be to spray silicone lubricant generously on all the joints as the problem is happening. You didn't by any chance replace the lower ball joints for noise did you?
No they were replaced due to some play in them.
